Internet radio offers independent artists the opportunity to find an audience, listeners to discover new artists and genres, and allows music that may never have been heard through other forms of radio to be appreciated.
Our coalition supports fair and equitable royalty rates for Internet radio so this industry, and the hundreds of thousands of artists can continue to thrive. We are asking that you please join the SaveNetRadio coalition by taking a moment to fill out the form below.
It is extremely important to note that the coalition isn't against royalties -- we believe deeply that artists need to be compensated for their work. There's absolutely no question about that. The concern about the recent CRB decision is that the performance royalty rates for Internet radio services is an increase of 300-1200 percent from what webcasters were previously paying, causing the majority of webcasters to close their doors come July 15th. It is simply impossible for webcasters to pay 150% of their revenue to royalties.
Niche-based genres particularly depend on the wide exposure that the Internet radio provides. The bottom line is this - if webcasters go out of business - no one hears the music and therefore zero royalty fees are paid. Since webcasters are more likely to play independent artists than traditional radio, as of July 15th less of these artists will have the opportunity for exposure and royalty payments. There is a middle ground here --- fair and equitable rates so that music, artists, listeners and webcasters can all come out winners.
