Run of the Mill String Band is an old-time Appalachian string band (fiddle, banjo, etc.). Because Old-time music has a relatively small, but unusually loyal listening base, traditional commercial radio has never picked up on it, which leaves a small number of Internet radio stations, like Sugar in the Gourd (www.sugarinthegourd.com) and a couple of others as our only viable radio presence we can attain. Doing what the RIAA wants to do will kill the medium that we have. Please vote against the RIAA plan.
I also work at a large retail store and we have hundreds of people that use internet radio to find the right song for the CD they plan to buy Don't take away one of the few ways to get artists and new labels out there to the people
I dont know if you listen to internet radio, but it has been one of the greatest tools for discovering new music and getting my music out there. The fact that many want the rates raised will put many stations out of business because they can't afford it, and that shouldnt happen to art.
Local musician in the Hollywood/Pasadena area all thru the 80's and early 90's. Most of my noteriety was due to the sheer number of dates I played with any one of several popular local bands, sharing the stage with the likes of Quiet Riot, Stormer, Greg Leon, Black'n'Blue, Love Razors, Smile, Prime Movers, et al. We were all extremely gifted and tlaented writers and performers, and I still enjoy playing out. Now occupied with other endeavors (e.g. voiceovers) I write music with my former band mates and record it digitally. We are looking to begin posting on internet radio and other online music forums soon. Internet music must survive as an accessible format, as long as it does not unfairly exploit the artist - which so far it has not. It is the only alternative to the beast of commercial radio.
Internet radio sites like Pandora are a great way to get independent artists heard- since mainstream radio won't play our music, it's crucial that independent artists continue to have a way to share their music with people who are looking for an alternative to mainstream radio.
This is insane! As surely as my work depends upon the internet for exposure and availability to others, so also do I and many depend on the internet & it's accessibility to find others whom we wish to support in their talents... as well as being a step towards the dark ages both in limiting free speech and encouraging mass distribution of disposable and non~recyclable cd's and tapes. Internet accessibility paves the way for stronger communities and individuals to support themselves rather than falling to the wayside dependant upon welfare & other social programs.
Think about it!!!
I need Internet Radio to be heard!!!!!!!
As an independent artist, I thrive on the promotional opportunities that the internet provides. Internet radio sites such as Pandora.com have garnered us many fans we would not otherwise have reached. Part of what makes such promotion a success is the fact that our music can be heard along side major-label artists. If the new royalty rates put a stop to internet radio, the vital back-bone of our promotion will be lost. It is important that the royalty rates not be raised unreasonably high. Thanks.
I am a lover of music. It has saved my life. No kidding. I write music, and share it free of charge to all who wish to listen. On my website I even allow free downloads of all music. They have already been sticking their noses into my tab sites, now they are after the internet radio, next they will charge you to speak in public. Anything for a few more $$ right? The buck stops here! Thank you. John Mackey
We would be nothing if the internet didn't let us share our music with our fans. Please don't take this away from us.
Internet Radio is self-sustaining my current artist at present time. Airplay at this format is critical to our survival to us, both as label and artist... Force commercial radio to support independent music everywhere before making America's lifeline to the arts extinct!
Internet radio has been a huge source of support and exposure for our small band. It is a truly invaluable resource. Please don't destroy it by charging it exhorbatant prices it can't possibly pay. We, speaking as an artist, think the exposure is a million times more important than a few pennies of royalties. The only people who will profit insanely off this is major labels, who already have a monopoly on so much of the music industry. Thank you for listening.
Just an old singer/songwriter trying to get my stuff out in the public eye...

I have just recently moved to the LA area in order to persue a career in the one field that gives me true joy, music. Internet radio has given many musicians an avenue to let their music be heard where regular radio stations fall short. This industry is hard enough to break into let alone expose people to your music. By passing this law, you are taking away yet another means by which alternative, underground and otherwise starving musicians have to get their music out to the public. Many of us just want people to be happy and we try to accomplish that through our music. It is one of the most joyous things to see a persons face light up bright when they hear a song they love. Please keep this love and joy alive. Don't destroy internet radio.
I hope you will do ALL you can to preserve this music format. Please do what you can to help.
Sincerely,
Randall T. Maluy
I am making music today because of podcasters & internet radio. These forums embrace my music, whereas the limited vision of standard recording labels threw me away. This is the land of opportunity, and I thank God for the exposure I have received from the independent, free internet & podcasting community. Please keep it that way.
Internet radio is important to emerging artists and as an alternative to commercial radio. Not everything in the good ol'USofA should be in existance to provide revenue to people who already have too much money. Save the little guy!
Internet radio is one of the only ways I can get out to the people.
I am a DJ. My livelihood and artists in the scene that I participate in all rely on internet radio as another means to grab peoples' attention, reach out to more listeners and expose more music that is starved for this kind of exposure. . . exposure that has the abilty to reach millions of people. For our style of music called Breakbeats has no place on ClearChannel- controlled radio airwaves . . . if you take this away from us, where will we go to hear it?
DEAR SIR
I had a band many years ago but things happen and the band broke up.I'm now creating a new band some 40 years later, this is the last chance of living my dream, and having something I alwas wanted. The radio we can have free is the only way of helping our band get the vewing we need please help stop fees to hinder our chance of being heard and seen .The musica business is a ruff thing to get started in help stop the fees from stoping us.

As an independent artist, internet stations are the only places my music is heard. Let's keep the playing field even.
