Internet radio has been a huge help to myself as an artist as well as a listener looking to find and purchase new music.  It is imperative that the costs be kept at a minimum in order to allow artists like myself to gain exposure to new fans.

Kaleo

We must save net radio! It is an incredible outlet for many artists such as my self, as well as an amazing alternative to broadcast radio for music lovers. There is an astouding array of music not provided by conventional radio and it's all at the touch of a button. It's great, it's freedom, and thus, it's the american way! Please help to KEEP NET RADIO ALIVE!!!

Barney Saltzberg

I'm a new children's artist and the internet is the best way to spread my music.  If there are limits as to what can be played and who is able to play the music, then my chances for being heard are extremely limited!

DJ Unagi

This would be detrimental to what I do as a dj.  Many dance music djs depend on online radio for advertising.

The RIAA and broadcast radio need to get a clue and realize these are not a threat to anyone.

Most operators on online stations offer the service as a hobby, not as a business.

Detroit Illharmonic

Internet radio is one of the only places underground acts like us can get played.  Without it, we're cut off from the world.  Again.

Sad Marvin

Internet radio stations and bloggers have spread our music worldwide and given us fans we never would have gotten through conventional radio.  It's important to our future as a band and as music makers that this remains a viable method of exposure. Don't shut them down!!!

Outlines

I am in a still developing project that is too small for most types of media, and the end of internet radio would destroy an important promotional tool that may really be helpful to me in the immediate future.

Gutterwall

I am a recording artist, and this corporation is stealing my money by making radio stations and bands pay them for my music.  I refuse to cooperate in this monopoly, and want my rights restored to me as guarenteed under our constitution and bill of rights.  This is a fundamental theft of artists funds, and a rate hike on top of that is intolerable.

Inner Gypsy

For emerging artists who are trying to build a fan base, internet radio is an important tool to reach new listeners.

BrokenHeartMusic

Internet radio has been a major outlet for my music, giving me exposure that would be impossible under the traditional corporately controlled system.  Similarly, as a listener, I have discover many bands, whose music I subsequently purchased, that I would have never found otherwise.  Closing down internet radio defeats the purpose of the internet - free information sharing; it hurts EVERYONE, including major corporations - they are just too dumb to see it now; it handicaps artistic growth and expression; and ultimately, it violates my freedom of speech!  It is one of the most incredibly wrong-minded pieces of legislation I have ever heard of!

Rachel Lynn

Internet Radio is the launching point from which Indie artists, such as myself, are heard.

The REASON why Online stations can play Indie muzic is because of the low costs that are required to broadcast.  Please don't take away this key musician resource.

DJ Margaritaville

I am a dj/producer and I enjoy web radio very much. I hope to eventually stream music from my own website  (probably weekends only at first) and these new royalty rates could thrwart my plans and limit the creative and artistic musical freedom of myself and other artists and listeners.

Snuckafoo

As a musician myself, I know how important internet radio is to promoting the exchange of music, culture and ideas.  This is a resource we should be supporting, not shutting down!  Expanding the opportunity to learn about new musical genres and artists allows new music to flourish.  Internet radio has played a major role in my sucess as a musician and band member.  I strongly advocate its continued existence and availability on a free basis!

Elizabeth Shea

Many of my friends are gaining exposure from internet radio that Clearchannel and other radio Mega Companies would never allow independant artists to have. I believe in internet radio and as an artist I feel it is worth fighting to keep it alive. Please let the royalty rates be decreased and save internet radio so that music of all types and from all classes of artists can continue to be heard.
Thank you so much for your time and God bless your work!!

Mathew Shearer

Since I was a kid, singing has always been a passion.  I'm not one of the most famous artists out there, and for those that aren't so famous, Internet radio has always been a way to be heard.  Please don't take away our voice!  Let us be heard!

Alloy Trex

As a lover and producer of music distributed over the Internet, I urge congress to not further increase the royalties for streaming music.

Chilifingah

Is there a reaon internet radio should be treated differently thatn terrestrial radio or satellite radio?  As such, why would one medium be more taxed with more royalties than another.

Furthermore, internet stations like Pandora promote the less popular artists by identifying the listener's tastes and supplying the listener with bands that he/she may not have known.  This should be viewed as a positive by the record companies, as the music they are trying to sell is being targeted to the listener more effectively.  Perhaps the record companies need to rethink this.

Steve Newsense

I've been an independent DJ for 12 years.  This will surely kill one of the ways I find new underground music.

Syd

Without outlets like pandora and yahoo!music I would feel a serious impact on my fanbase, income, and livelihood.

The Big Heavy

To be completely honest, web radio had spurred more CD  purchases and paid downloads from me than ANY other medium of advertising I've been subjected to in years.  There's always somewhere I can go to hear new bands. Inevitably I will like some, buy their disks, go to their shows, buy shirts, disks, etc. at the show and basically allow new bands to keep working. Allowing these new royalty rates to go through will stifle artist growth and, as a result, end up hurting the industry in the long run. Many artists who owe their popularity to web radio will instantly be put out of business. The recording industry really just needs to get on the ball and instead of spending millions of dollars on court costs, spend that same money on development of new technology and push us into the next generation of music, media and entertainment...just like the VCR did.
